Permanent, full time (35 hours), based at Logan Botanic Garden
Salary £25,424 (pay award pending) plus civil service pension, generous holiday entitlement and other benefits
The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) is a world-renowned centre for plant science, horticulture, and education. With four unique gardens across Scotland, including the stunning Logan Botanic Garden in Dumfries & Galloway, we are dedicated to exploring, conserving, and celebrating the diversity of plant life. Logan, often described as Scotland’s most exotic garden, benefits from a mild climate that allows an extraordinary range of plants to thrive outdoors, creating a truly special environment for visitors and staff alike.
We are now looking for a passionate and skilled Horticulturist to join our team at Logan. This is a hands-on role where you’ll be part of a collaborative and knowledgeable team, caring for and developing our living plant collection. You’ll be involved in everything from planting and pruning to pest management and machinery operation, all while contributing to the garden’s educational and conservation goals.
You’ll work closely with students, volunteers, and visitors, sharing your expertise and enthusiasm for plants. Whether guiding a work placement through safe machinery use or chatting with guests about the garden’s unique specimens, your communication skills and warm approach will help make Logan a welcoming and inspiring place for all.
To flourish in this role, you’ll bring a solid foundation in horticultural principles, practical experience with machinery, and a flexible, proactive attitude. A recognised horticultural qualification (such as RHS Level 2) or equivalent hands-on experience is essential, along with a full UK driving licence. Additional certifications in machinery use, pesticide application, or tree inspection are desirable but not required.
