Please read carefully, this is a LIVE IN POSITION and a great opportunity for the right person to gain some real experience in animal care. Mossburn is a registered charity and as a Community Farm and animal sanctuary, is home to over 100 animals. These include horses & ponies, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, emus, rabbits & guinea pigs.
We are looking for a full time yard worker to work Wednesday-Sunday each week.
Duties include all aspects of animal care – feeding, mucking out, sweeping & general yard duties, grooming, exercising. Yard Workers are responsible for administering medications, overseeing small teams of volunteers, ensuring all jobs are completed for the day and maintaining our high standards of cleanliness and animal welfare. There is also an element of interacting with visitors to the farm, giving tours, etc.
Full training will be given and the right ethos and work ethic are most important, however previous experience with animals, and especially handling horses, would be preferred.
The successful applicant must live on site (at least during Weds-Sun) in comfortable, fully plumbed in static caravan.
They must be a genuine animal lover who understands the level of commitment and hard work required. This can be a physically and mentally demanding role and involves working outdoors in all weather. They must also be reliable, punctual (7am start every day), responsible, sensible, able to multi-task and able to listen and take on board instructions.
This is a paid position, with all accommodation and amenities costs covered and there is an element of voluntary time contribution involved as well, to be discussed at interview.
Accommodation is available from end of February however an earlier start may be possible.
