Agricultural Consultant Full Time

We are based in Dumfries and Galloway with clients across Scotland and are looking for an experienced consultant to join our growing team.

Job description

The successful candidate will be an experienced agricultural consultant with drive and initiative. Good technical knowledge, commercial acumen and excellent communication skills are essential.

Duties will include:-

• Delivery of technical and financial farm consultancy.
• Leading presentations and group facilitation.
• Helping to train our trainee consultants.
• Build a professional network on behalf of Owen Farm Services.
• Identify opportunities, then subsequently develop, promote and market services.
• Carry out practical elements of the job, such as sampling.
• A Degree in Agriculture or its equivalent is essential along with relevant consultancy experience.
• Applicants with significant relevant experience may be considered without a relevant degree.

The candidate must use their initiative in their day-to-day activities and apply sound judgement to ensure that they conduct themselves within the framework of Owen Farm Services regulations and procedures. A full driving licence is essential since travel throughout the UK will be required. The candidate will perform additional duties as directed from time to time.

Owen Farm Services currently deliver advice to a range of established clients. Based in the office near Lockerbie but requiring some travel, including overnight stays and out-of-area work, the ideal candidate will have a proven range of skills to help our clients’ businesses move forward. Hybrid working may be considered for the right candidate.

Skill and Qualities

• Consultancy experience.
• Financial analysis skills including budget preparation.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent IT skills, particularly with MS Office.
• Commercial awareness.
• Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
• An excellent manner to help understand and help clients.
• Discretion is required at all times.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

• Experience as an agricultural consultant.
• Degree in an agricultural field or significant relevant experience.
• Driving licence.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

• Experience working on/with farms.
• Experience working in an analytical environment.
• Experience with GIS.
• Experience as a drone operator.
• Technical consultancy experience.
