We are seeking a reliable and knowledgeable part-time gardener to maintain the grounds of a private residential property. This role is required one day per week during the growing season – from March through to late November or early December. Our previous gardener of five years is sadly retiring so we are looking for someone who can work independently to a high standard and take ownership of the garden’s ongoing care.
About the Garden
The property is a private home with sizeable but not extensive grounds. Lawns are maintained by robotic mowers, and major hedge cutting and tree work can be outsourced. The role, therefore, focuses primarily on maintaining beds, borders and pathways as well as clearing leaves and looking after seasonal planting areas (bulbs etc).
Key Responsibilities
• Ongoing maintenance of flower beds and borders including weeding, pruning and general care
• Light lawn maintenance in areas unreachable by the robotic mowers
• Pathway care, sweeping, and debris removal
• Leaf blowing, collection, and disposal during autumn
• Supporting seasonal planting and garden development alongside the homeowner
• Basic plant care throughout the year, including watering and deadheading as required
• Assisting with preparation for seasonal changes in the garden
• Identifying minor issues early (e.g., pests, diseases, plant stress) and recommending solutions
• Working independently, planning tasks for the day and managing time efficiently
What We Provide
The property is equipped with a wide range of gardening tools including strimmers, hedge cutter, blower, chainsaw (for minor use) and all standard hand tools. The gardener may use their own tools if preferred, but all equipment required for the job can be provided.
Requirements
• Strong plant knowledge and understanding of garden maintenance throughout the seasons
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Experience with general garden machinery and hand tools
• Reliability, good communication skills, and a tidy working approach
• Previous gardening experience, ideally in similar residential settings
Working Pattern
• One full day per week (flexible choice of day)
• Early March to late November/early December
• Additional ad-hoc days may be available subject to mutual agreement (e.g., seasonal peaks)
