Job Title: Warehouse Assistant
Salary: Starting at £14.00/hour. All employees benefit from an end of year bonus, depending on annual profitability.
Location: Heathhall, Dumfries
Hours: Part-time (9-2 potentially with some flexibility, Monday to Friday) and will require working one Saturday every four weeks. Saturdays can either be taken in lieu or paid at the standard rate in addition to normal hours, depending on employee preference.
We would like this to become a permanent, full-time position for the right person; however, there will be an initial probation period of six months. The right person would move up to full-time hours (9-5) in September 2025. A full-time position would involve a wage rise to £16.00 per hour.
About us:
The Wood Fuel Co-operative is a small, family-run business, providing high quality wood fuel to customers across the UK. We run a retail shop in Dumfries which serves local customers, and we have an online shop serving customers across the UK. Orders placed on our website are prepared in our pack & dispatch department, then loaded onto lorries for distribution across the UK.
Roles and Responsibilities:
· Your primary responsibility will be working in our pack & dispatch department, building pallets of wood fuel for national dispatch. This is a physically demanding job, which involves handling packs of product weighing between 5kg – 25kg. It requires great care and attention to ensure orders go out correctly. Manual handling training will be provided.
· Driving a forklift will be a major part of your job; previous experience of this is an advantage but we will provide training.
· You will also be responsible for making some local deliveries using our 3.5ton delivery vans, delivering pallets of wood fuel to our local customers. This involves handballing off full pallets of 10-25kg packs of wood fuel and carrying them to the customer’s fuel store, so you must be physically fit and strong. You will need a clean, current driving license.
· As part of a small team, your role will be varied and will also involve serving customers, answering the phone and assisting with other tasks, as required.
· It will be necessary to do housekeeping such as keeping the yard clean and organised, and ensuring the shop and packing department are tidy and safe.
Key requirements:
· Good physical strength for manual handling; you may be handling several tonnes of product every day
· Good communication skills; we pride ourselves on our reputation for excellent customer service. You will need to be polite, friendly and willing to take time and effort to ensure customers have the best possible experience with us.
· Clean, current driving license
· Flexibility and willingness to work in a wide variety of roles as part of a small, busy team
