About Us
Living in the communities of Keir, Penpont and Tynron in Dumfries & Galloway, The Trust key objectives are sustainability, employment and rural regeneration. This means providing and organising facilities, to improve the quality of life for all our residents. We are governed by a Memorandum of Association which is registered at Companies House. A board of directors are elected to manage the work of the Trust.
There a 6 current live pillar projects and services contributing to the Communities as follows;
Connecting Our Communities ; The Penpont to Thornhill Path is very much part of our health and well-being ethos.
Affordable Housing ; Working on a project to build affordable community housing in a field adjacent to Penpont.
The Community Cafe ; opened in July 2020 [ thanks to Adapt and Thrive Govt funding] This crucial social hub allows elderly, socially isolated and disadvantaged people to have a central place. Meets many needs.
The Community Garden; Formed in Aug 2020 with over 15 volunteers. An existing garden at the Community hydro site. A second site gifted from a land-owner, and the group have accessed funding through Community Ideas Into Action’ to now buy equipment tools fencing etc to make the gardens a sustainable, whole of community project.
Carbon Reduction Group ; Already built a Community hydro on the outskirts of Penpont, completed March 2020. Small community garden on this plot.
E Bike Scheme; After running transport survey E bikes proved most popular. Have just received funding from Cycling Scotland and the Energy Saving Trust in Nov 2021 to buy 9 E bikes [ 3 for each village] and ancillary equipment. Plan to deliver from March 2022.
Broadband group ; Its very evident through all our efforts to reach all in our communites that a significant segment dont have broadband or wifi. Communication is at the heart of what KPT do. We are currently looking to put broadband in our 3 village halls and the Community cafe. This would provide invaluable connectivity with these residents.
